Complete definitions of the following terms can be read in section "2.0 Scope" of the BREEAM Assessor Manual.
- Refurbishment: Construction that results in the fundamental remodelling or adaptation of existing elements of the building envelope, structure and renewal of key building services. And where, on completion of the works, such remodelling / renewal will materially impact on the performance of the building.
- New Build: Construction that results in a new stand alone structure, or extension to an existing structure, which will come into operation/use for the first time upon completion of the works.
- Part new/part refurb:
- Existing building fit out: BREEAM can be used to assess a fit out of an existing building. An assessment can be carried out on the first fit-out of the shell of a new building/unit or subsequent re-fit of an existing building/unit.
